Natalia is a Spanish Canadian photographer and mixed media artist. For over 30 years she has been capturing the world around her through street, and cultural photography. Born in Spain, raised in Canada and with close ties to Chile, She now resides with her beautiful family in Malaga, Spain.
Currently she is combining her photography with mixed media on wood. It is a process that she says draws her closer to her work. “It is a deconstruction of sorts or a transformation from perfection to a more lived or worn piece.” “I feel that in photography the norm is to strive for perfection and sharpness, through my transfers I am abrading away through all that.” It is through this hands-on process, that she has been able to create something that is intuitively hers, away from standards and today’s technology.
As well, she is working on two current photo-essay projects on immigration and migration in Spain (a co-project with her daughter, Jemada Cicely) and Mujeres Andaluz – a glance into the diverse and strong women of Andalucia.
